Bartlett, also called Williams, is the world’s most popular pear, originating in 18th-century England before gaining fame in America. It sets the standard for classic pear flavor.

Hardy in USDA Zones 5-7 (with 800+ chill hours), it prefers cooler summers. Moderately susceptible to fire blight, pear psylla, and scab — choose resistant rootstocks and good site selection.

Grow in full sun with well-drained soil; harvest mature-green and ripen indoors. Large, classic bell-shaped fruit with golden-yellow skin (sometimes blushed red) and smooth, juicy, buttery white flesh with sweet aromatic flavor.

Best eaten fresh; stores 1-2 months refrigerated after ripening.
